The Complete Guide to Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty
Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty collection launched late last night (Sep. 7) globally online and at her live streamed event in Brooklyn. At Billboard Style we decided a complete guide to Rih’s makeup collection was the least we could do, so behold: everything you need to know about Fenty Beauty.
1. Fenty Beauty is made by Kendo Brands, Sephora’s indie label that also houses cult brand names like Kat Von D, Marc Jacobs Beauty and now, Fenty Beauty.
There are seven different categories of products and each come in a mind-blowing assortment of variations to work for anyone, whether you’re an ultra-light skin tone in the 100s or a deep skin tone in the 500s. The products are: Pro Filt’r Retouch Primer (1 shade), Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation (40 shades!!), Match Stix Matte Skinstick (can be used as concealer, matte highlighter, matte contour and more. Comes in 20 shades), Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick (10 shades), Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter (6 Shades), Invisimatte Blotting Powder (1 shade) and her Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer (1 shade).

Rih also dropped a basic line of matching tools, including highlight and foundation brushes with millennial pink tips, compact “portable” brushes in the same hexagon packaging as her Match Stix and even a roll of self-cutting blotting papers. #Genius.
2. The Match Stix are magnetic hexagons, so when one is next to the other, the magnets attract and create what looks like the human genome or DNA. How’s that for a subliminal message?

The foundation, for example, is produced by an Italian manufacturer outside of Milan (so you know it’s Gucci good.) All of the products are also 100% paraben, sulfate, phthalates and cruelty-free.
5. While Rih prides her new collection on being for every person, no matter who you are, the line ain’t cheap. To get The Fenty Face with only a few products (which is actually quite simple), we’ve decided, after hours of rigorous testing at the launch, that these are the products you need to splurge for:
Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Trophy Wife, $34
This creamy powder highlighter is so concentrated one swipe delivers an Insta-worthy swatch. It’s super glittery, so this one isn’t for the highlighter faint of heart, but there’s no doubt it’s perfect for a Wild Thoughts kind of night. Swipe it on collarbones, shoulders and cupids bows for a golden goddess feel that looks like Rih.
Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Yacht Life, for a more natural, beachy look, or Unicorn, for a holographic shimmer, $25
Once you get one, you’ll want to make like Pokemon and catch ’em all. To start, we suggest Yacht Life, which is a universally-flattering golden peach that works as a pick-me-up in the winter and an extra touch of sun in the summer. The creamy formation of “Unicorn” makes for something really beautiful, especially when dotted onto the lids and inner corners of the eyes. If you’ve got green or brown irises, this lilac-colored stick is definitely for you.

We know: What are we doing suggesting an invisible blotting powder at a time like this?! Trust us, this ultra finely milled powder looks iridescent and white in the case, but when dusted onto the t-zone post makeup application, it immediately gives you a weightless, slightly matte finish that’s not at all dusty or glittery.
Match Stix Customizable Trio, $54
For the most bang-for-your-buck, we suggest splurging on the Match Stix Customizable Trio which you can purchase on Fentybeauty.com. While the formulations are different than the actual foundation itself, the conceal and contour sticks make for easy, creamy touch-ups and come in almost as many shades as the Pro Fil’tr comes in, only in a portable stick form.
